Daily Herald Sports Editor Darnell Dickson checks in on all things BYU sports.

Good morning11/13/2006
Here's a couple of things on my mind this Monday AM ...

* Utah's Eric Weddle was picked as the preseason MWC Defensive Player of the Year by the writers in July. Has he had an MVP year? I do know one thing: I think the defensive MVP should come from the team with the best defense and right now, that's BYU linebacker Cameron Jensen. His stats are good but his leadership is better. Debate away.

* Can we just re-name the MWC Offensive Player of the Week award the "John Beck Memorial?" He just won it for the fifth time.

* Last Thursday before the BYU-Wyoming game, I called Comcast to see what we could do to get CSTV. Turns out our TV package was "grandfathered" from when AT&T owned the cable and it was actually $5 less to convert to a current package with CSTV. I asked the guy at Comcast if he'd taken many calls from BYU fans and he said for the past two hours, that's pretty much all he'd been doing. Just for what it's worth, since Comcast isn't telling how many new customers or upgrades they've done for BYU fans.

* Could the CSTV announcers for BYU-Wyoming been any lamer? Maybe because it was a blowout they struggled to make the game interesting, but the play-by-play guy mis-identified a BYU player with a Wyoming name at least four times, including Jonny Harline's touchdown catch. Late in the game, they talked about how Bronco had been in the BYU program for "years." Yeah, like since 2002.
