I heard some new numbers from the GOP state convention today. Just how close was Jason Chaffetz to sending Chris Cannon packing?Chaffetz needed just nine more votes to cross the magical 60-percent mark. In the four hours between the first vote and the third vote, 122 delegates in that district went home. I don't know what percentage were for which candidate, but surely Chaffetz could have found the numbers he needed in that group somewhere. Also, I'm not entirely sure why he did it, but David Leavitt sent out a press release last night defending his move to back Cannon and telling people to lay off the kids with Leavitt shirts on who were packing Cannon signs around.
